Democrat Taylor Rehmet is projected to win a Texas Senate seat previously carried by Trump, marking another notable Democratic gain ahead of the midterm elections.
Democrats recorded another special election victory on Saturday, flipping a Texas state Senate seat that President Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024. Taylor Rehmet, a union president and Air Force veteran, is projected by CNN to defeat Trump-backed Leigh Wambsganss in the Fort Worth-area 9th District runoff.
Rehmet, who secured 48% in the first round in November, prevailed as Democrats build momentum ahead of the midterms. The seat became vacant after Republican Kelly Hancock resigned last summer to serve as Texas’ acting comptroller, while Trump had made a late push for Wambsganss.
