Eric Swalwell evicted from mansion by billionaire backer who now wants $1m returned

Billionaire Stephen Cloobeck has cut ties with Eric Swalwell, evicted him, and may seek to recover $1 million following serious misconduct allegations that have derailed the congressman’s political career.

A political fallout unfolded as billionaire Stephen Cloobeck severed ties with Congressman Eric Swalwell, evicting him from his mansion just hours before Swalwell withdrew from California’s gubernatorial race. “I am no longer supporting Eric,” Cloobeck said, adding, “F—ing tell everyone I’m a libertarian. F— you, Democrat Party. I’m a libertarian now.”

The break follows serious allegations of rape, sexual assault, and misconduct made by multiple women, triggering investigations and a wave of lost endorsements for Swalwell. Cloobeck, who spent over $1 million backing him, confirmed the congressman was no longer staying at his Beverly Hills home and said he may attempt to recover the funds through legal means.

Cloobeck, once a longtime Democrat, said the controversy forced him to reconsider his political alignment. “I don’t know where these facts are going to end up,” he stated, while questioning Swalwell’s honesty. The billionaire, who previously called Swalwell his “little brother,” now says he is “done” with the Democratic Party as the scandal deepens.
