Eric Swalwell’s gubernatorial campaign is in crisis after multiple misconduct allegations triggered denials, withdrawals of support, and calls for him to exit the race.
Eric Swalwell’s bid for California governor has been thrown into turmoil following allegations of rape and misconduct by four women, including a former staffer. The claims, reported by major outlets, have prompted calls from political figures for him to withdraw. Swalwell denied the accusations, stating, “These allegations are false… I will defend myself with the facts.”
Prominent Democrats, including Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, have withdrawn support and urged him to step aside. Schiff said, “This woman was brave to come forward… I am withdrawing my endorsement immediately,” while Padilla added the allegations “warrant a full investigation.” Other allies and campaign officials have also resigned or distanced themselves.
The controversy has intensified pressure on Swalwell as the gubernatorial race unfolds, with rivals and party leaders warning of political fallout. His campaign, once competitive, now faces uncertainty as endorsements collapse and calls for accountability grow, raising questions about his viability ahead of the primary election.
