Former professional Iranian soccer player, Mojtaba Tarshiz, was shot during protests in Iran, according to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights. Now, Iranian sports broadcaster Dr. Mojtaba Pourbakhsh is calling on FIFA to publicly denounce the killing of Iranian athletes.

In 2022, another professional football player, Amir Reza Nasr Azadani, was initially sentenced to death in connection with protests, before wide outcry — including condemnation from international football organizations — resulted in his sentence being reduced to 26 years in prison.

FIFA did not immediately respond to CBS News’ request for comment.
