Authorities say at least 74 people have died in a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java, with rescue teams still searching for missing residents amid difficult weather conditions.
The death toll from a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java region has risen to 74, authorities said on Friday, nearly two weeks after heavy rain triggered the disaster. The landslide struck a mountain village in West Bandung on January 24, burying homes and displacing hundreds of residents.
Local search and rescue chief Ade Dian Permana said some residents remain missing. “There are still a number of residents on the missing persons list who have not yet been found,” he said, adding that thick fog and rain continue to hamper recovery efforts as the operation enters its recovery phase.
