Indonesia launches search for missing plane with 10 on board

Indonesian authorities on Saturday launched a search for an Indonesia Air Transport turboprop plane carrying three government workers and seven crew members after contact was lost shortly after 1:00 pm (0600 GMT) while en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar on Sulawesi island, according to officials and rescuers.

Search teams involving the air force, police and volunteers were deployed to a mountainous area near the aircraft’s last known location in Maros Regency, with helicopters and drones in use, while plane manufacturer ATR said it had been informed of “an accident” and that “ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation led by the Indonesian authorities and the operator,” AFP reported.
