Israel has been placed on high alert amid concerns over potential US military action against Iran as the country grapples with ongoing anti-government protests, according to three Israeli sources familiar with the matter.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened intervention in recent days, warning Iran’s rulers against using force on demonstrators and stating on Saturday that the US stands “ready to help.”
The sources, who attended Israeli security consultations over the weekend, did not provide details on what the high-alert status entails. The alert follows a June 12-day war in which Israel and the US launched air strikes on Iran.
In a phone call on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed possible US intervention, a source confirmed, while Netanyahu, in an interview with The Economist, warned of “horrible consequences” for Iran if it were to attack Israel, adding, “Everything else, I think we should see what is happening inside Iran.”
