JD Vance slams Netanyahu for pitching ‘easy’ Iran war to Trump

JD Vance reportedly confronted Benjamin Netanyahu in a tense call, accusing him of overselling the chances of regime change in Iran as the U.S. pushes for negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance reportedly confronted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a tense phone call, accusing him of overstating the likelihood of regime change in Iran when presenting the war plan to President Donald Trump. Sources said Vance told Netanyahu that several predictions made before the conflict began had not materialized.

“Before the war, Bibi really sold it to the President as being easy, as regime change being a lot likelier than it was. And the VP was clear-eyed about some of those statements,” a source told Axios. Despite the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, hardline factions in Tehran have reportedly tightened their grip on power and the government remains in control.

Vance, who had advised Trump against entering the war, has since been tasked with helping lead negotiations to end the conflict. The vice president has met officials from the UAE and Qatar while the White House signals he could lead high-level talks with Iran, even as Tehran rejects a U.S.-backed ceasefire plan and demands the closure of American bases in the Gulf.
