Nearly half of the countries represented on United States President Donald Trump’s newly launched ‘Board of Peace’ are facing US visa restrictions, following a directive by the State Department to pause immigrant visa processing for 75 countries from January 21 amid a review of screening and vetting procedures.
Trump signed the board’s charter during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, describing it as potentially “one of the most consequential bodies ever created”, but the move has highlighted contradictions in the initiative, as 12 participating nations are among those affected by the restrictions, which were imposed over concerns about welfare dependence, raising questions about whether the board can effectively bridge diplomatic divides.
Countries on Trump’s Board of Peace affected by US visa restrictions:
Kazakhstan
Kosovo
Pakistan
Egypt
Uzbekistan
Mongolia
Jordan
Armenia
Morocco
Azerbaijan
Albania
Belarus
