A man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Saturday in an incident involving federal law enforcement, who said the man was armed, further escalating tensions weeks after the fatal shooting of resident Renee Good that sparked widespread protests in the Twin Cities, as Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the 37-year-old Minneapolis resident was shot several times in the chest and later pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center despite life-saving efforts by city officers, adding, “Based on the information we have, which is very limited, this is a 37-year-old white male who is a Minneapolis resident, and we believe he is an American citizen,” while noting, “We have not been told any official reports of what has led up to the shooting,” and urging federal agencies to operate “with the same discipline, humanity and integrity that effective law enforcement in this country demands,” as the Department of Homeland Security said officers recovered a gun from the man; Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) called on President Trump to “act like a leader” and end the federal operation, saying, “Let’s end this operation… We’re asking for you to take action now to remove these federal agents,” while Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said on X, “Minnesota has had it… The President must end this operation,” as Saturday’s shooting became the third reported incident involving authorities in the federal crackdown amid growing protests, subpoenas from the Department of Justice accusing state and city leaders of obstructing immigration enforcement, and continued demonstrations across the city.
