Maureen Dowd accuses Trump of ‘Obama derangement syndrome’ following video controversy

Columnist Maureen Dowd blasted President Trump for a racist social media post depicting the Obamas as primates, attributing the incident to a deep-seated obsession with his predecessor.

New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd criticized President Trump on Saturday, claiming he suffers from “Obama Derangement Syndrome” following the posting of a racist video on his Truth Social account. The since-deleted clip depicted former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes. Dowd described the incident as “shocking and predictable,” labeling the White House’s initial defense of the meme “pathetic.”

While the White House blamed the post on a staffer’s error, Dowd argued the president remained complicit. She further denounced Trump’s National Prayer Breakfast remarks and his fixation on the 2020 election. “I think Americans do care that your boss is a racist and off his rocker,” Dowd wrote, directly addressing Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s dismissal of the public backlash.
