The death of Mexico’s most wanted cartel leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, has sparked nationwide violence after a military raid successfully tracked him to a Jalisco hideout using intelligence on one of his romantic partners.
In a high-stakes military operation on Sunday, Mexican security forces located and killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the notorious leader of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel, after tracking one of his romantic partners to a secluded resort in Tapalpa. Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla confirmed that intelligence agents monitored a man close to the woman to pinpoint the kingpin’s location, stating, “The intelligence process is very complex,” regarding the resources required for the raid.
While the target attempted to flee into the woods during a fierce gunfight with special forces, he was critically wounded and later died while being transported to Mexico City. The mission, supported by intelligence from the U.S. Joint Interagency Task Force-Counter Cartel, triggered a violent retaliatory revolt across several states, leading Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch to report “27 cowardly attacker against authorities in Jalisco” that resulted in the deaths of 25 National Guard members and 30 cartel operatives.
