Musk faces EU investigation over sex deepfakes…

EU regulators have launched a formal investigation into X, citing concerns that Grok-enabled deepfakes exposed users to illegal and harmful sexualized content.

European Union regulators on Monday announced an investigation into Elon Musk’s social media platform X, alleging it failed to curb the spread of sexualized images generated by its A.I. chatbot Grok. Authorities said explicit deepfakes, including images of children, circulated widely on the platform, prompting scrutiny under the Digital Services Act.

The European Commission said X may have inadequately addressed “systemic risks” linked to integrating Grok. “Nonconsensual sexual deepfakes of women and children are a violent, unacceptable form of degradation,” Henna Virkkunen said, adding regulators would assess whether X met its legal obligations or treated citizens’ rights as “collateral damage.”
