The number of House Democrats supporting articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has risen to 67, according to Rep. Robin Kelly’s office.
Kelly announced plans to file three articles of impeachment, accusing Noem of obstructing Congress, violating public trust, and self-dealing following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis. Kelly told the House floor Tuesday, “Noem needs to be held accountable for terrorizing our communities,” adding that “Operation Midway Blitz has torn apart the Chicago land area.
President Trump declared war on Chicago and then he brought violence and destruction to our city and suburbs in the form of immigration enforcement.” A DHS spokesperson called the move “silly during a serious time,” noting rising assaults against ICE officers, while Noem told Fox News she would continue her duties, stating, “President Trump promised the American people that he would make America safe again…criminal, illegal aliens in this country are going to be brought to justice under his administration.”
