PROBE: The mystery of IIhan Omar’s skyrocketing wealth…

The House Oversight Committee and federal law enforcement are investigating the rapid increase in family wealth reported by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) following the emergence of a $9 billion Somali social services fraud scandal in her district, with Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) confirming that committee lawyers are considering the unusual step of subpoenaing Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, over what Republicans describe as questionable business practices, saying, “We’re going to get answers, whether it’s through the Ethics Committee or the Oversight Committee, one of the two.”

GOP lawmakers question how Omar and Mynett went from nearly broke to being worth as much as $30 million within a year, according to her 2024 financial disclosures, a jump Comer described bluntly by saying, “It’s not possible. It’s not. I’m a money guy. It’s not possible,” while a law-enforcement source said federal authorities are also examining “all politicians potentially connected to any of this [fraud] in Minnesota,” adding that under President Trump’s team the issue is “on top of it,” amid scrutiny of Mynett-linked investment firm Rose Lake Capital, which reportedly grew from virtually no assets in late 2022 to a valuation of up to $25 million a year later, despite not being registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and drawing “red flag” concerns from Wall Street sources, former advisers and financial experts who questioned the firm’s opaque structure, shifting web presence and claims of managing billions in prior assets, as Republicans argue the wealth surge, combined with past campaign donations linked to convicted fraudsters, warrants at least an Ethics Committee investigation, while the SEC declined to comment and Omar, Mynett and their associates have not responded to requests for comment.
