Residents of West Haven, Connecticut, say a persistent low-frequency hum has disrupted sleep, mental well-being and daily life, prompting emotional testimony at a recent town hall as city officials search for the source, according to a report by Fox News.
After collecting more than 140 signatures, residents persuaded the city council to spend $16,000 on a third-party acoustic firm to monitor the sound, with a petition stating, “For years, our community has been plagued by a constant or intermittent humming noise and low-frequency vibrations affecting multiple areas of town,” adding that the phenomenon is causing stress, anxiety and physical discomfort.
Mayor Dorinda Borer described the issue as a quality-of-life concern, saying, “We don’t want people to be impacted. We don’t want [people’s] health to be impacted,” while officials noted that not all residents hear the noise and emphasized the need for careful investigation before assigning blame.
