Swalwell says Bondi didn’t tip him off on report

Representative Eric Swalwell denied receiving any inside information from Pam Bondi regarding a revived FBI probe into his past, characterizing the allegations as a politically motivated attempt by the Trump administration to derail his California gubernatorial campaign.

Representative Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) has officially denied allegations that his status as the leading Democratic candidate for California governor prompted a “tip off” from former Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the reopening of a decade-old investigation into his ties to a suspected Chinese operative. Following Bondi’s sudden firing on Thursday, reports emerged suggesting President Trump was “furious” over a suspected leak to Swalwell, though the Congressman clarified on MS NOW that “The attorney general did not tip us off. No one in her orbit tipped us off.”

While Trump has previously pressured the DOJ to “speed up prosecution” of political rivals, Swalwell contends the administration is attempting to sabotage his gubernatorial campaign to ensure a Republican victory in California, stating that the President “wants an attorney general that is willing to break the law” and “weaponize the Department of Justice against his political enemies.”
