President Trump’s signature will appear on U.S. currency for the first time, replacing the treasurer’s signature in a historic move coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary.
U.S. paper currency will carry President Donald Trump’s signature starting this June, the Treasury Department announced Thursday. The $100 bill redesign marks the 250th anniversary of American independence and will, for the first time since 1861, remove the signature of the U.S. treasurer. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s signature will remain.
Bessent said, “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name.” The first bills will enter circulation in the coming weeks, while older notes with former officials’ signatures remain valid.
The signature change is part of broader efforts to put Trump’s name on government programs, buildings, coins, and warships. Former Treasurer Jovita Carranza described the move as “a powerful symbol of American resilience, the enduring strength of free enterprise and the promise of continued greatness.”
