UK rules out retaliatory tariffs on US amid Greenland tensions — Starmer

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday that Britain would not impose retaliatory tariffs on the United States despite President Donald Trump’s threats against NATO allies over Greenland, warning that a trade war would damage the UK economy, according to a report from The Guardian UK.

Speaking at an emergency press conference in Downing Street, Starmer said US tariffs would be “the wrong thing to do” and “in no one’s interests,” stressing that the dispute should be resolved through “calm discussion” and diplomacy, while reaffirming that “any decision about the future status of Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland and the kingdom of Denmark alone.” He added that maintaining a “strong, constructive and focused” relationship with Washington remained vital for Britain’s defence, security and intelligence interests, even as he insisted that “threatening tariffs on allies is the wrong thing to do, completely wrong.”
