xAI loses fourth cofounder as Tony Wu exits Elon Musk’s AI firm

Tony Wu has become the fourth cofounder to leave Elon Musk’s xAI in a year marked by leadership exits, controversy around Grok, and major corporate restructuring.

Tony Wu, a cofounder of Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI, has resigned, marking the fourth cofounder to leave in the past year. Wu announced his exit in a post on X, writing, “It’s time for my next chapter,” and describing a future where “a small team armed with AIs can move mountains.”

“And to Elon @elonmusk – thank you for believing in the mission and for the ride of a lifetime,” Wu added. xAI, launched in 2023 and later merged with X, has faced scrutiny over its Grok chatbot and recent regulatory investigations, even as Musk’s SpaceX acquired the company and IPO talks continue.
