Elon Musk has been summoned to Paris as French authorities investigate X and its Grok AI tool for alleged child abuse image distribution, deepfakes, and Holocaust denial.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been summoned to the French headquarters of X after the company’s offices were raided by law enforcement. The Paris prosecutors’ cybercrime unit, the national police cyber unit, and Europol are investigating alleged crimes linked to X and its AI chatbot, Grok. Officials cited possible complicity in distributing child abuse images, sexualized deepfakes, and denial of crimes against humanity. Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino are scheduled for “voluntary questioning.”
The investigation initially followed complaints that X’s algorithms distorted its data system and amplified political content while reducing diversity of voices. Authorities also noted Grok’s posts included Holocaust denial and sexually explicit deepfakes. X has denied all allegations, calling the investigation “politically motivated” and claiming it threatens free speech. Paris prosecutors emphasized that the aim is to ensure “X platform complies with French laws” while operating in the country.
