Governor Gavin Newsom’s new memoir alleges that President Trump openly mocked Jared Kushner in his presence, expressing lingering disappointment that Ivanka Trump chose to marry him instead of dating Tom Brady.
In his new memoir, Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, California Governor Gavin Newsom recounts a striking exchange aboard Marine One where President Trump allegedly belittled Jared Kushner by lamenting that Ivanka Trump chose him over football star Tom Brady. Newsom claims that Trump, while gesturing toward his son-in-law, detailed how Brady had expressed interest in Ivanka, only for her to snub the quarterback because she was “in love” with Kushner, leading Trump to reportedly ask his daughter, “Not the guy whose father just got out of prison?”
According to the memoir, Kushner responded to the awkward retelling by admitting, “Yes, sir. I know I wasn’t your first choice,” prompting Trump to turn to Newsom and reiterate, “Not even close, right, Gavin? Tom Brady. Tom Brady.” While Trump had long publicly praised the idea of a “power dynasty” between his daughter and the athlete, Newsom observed that the President seemed intent on making Kushner “feel two feet tall,” even as the couple who married in 2009 remained silent in the face of the public ribbing.
