House oversight panel deposes Hillary Clinton in Epstein investigation

US lawmakers have begun deposing Hillary Clinton in the congressional investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, with questioning focused on government handling of the case, Epstein’s network and potential ethics concerns.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has begun deposing former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as part of its investigation into disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The deposition, held Thursday in Chappaqua, New York, follows a decision by Clinton and former President Bill Clinton to comply with congressional subpoenas after initially resisting testimony. Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear for a separate deposition on Friday.

Committee chairman James Comer said the probe seeks to understand Epstein’s wealth, his connections with influential figures and whether any government links existed. Lawmakers agreed to focus questioning on the government’s handling of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, the circumstances of Epstein’s death, efforts to combat sex trafficking, potential protection by powerful figures and possible ethics violations by public officials. Clinton’s team maintains she does not recall speaking with Epstein and had only limited interactions with Maxwell.
