Regulators in the UK and France have escalated investigations into X and Grok AI, including a police raid in Paris, over the platform’s role in generating and distributing non-consensual sexual imagery and child abuse material.
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has launched a formal investigation into Elon Musk’s X and xAI regarding the Grok chatbot. The probe focuses on whether personal data was processed lawfully to create non-consensual sexual imagery. William Malcolm, ICO’s Director of Regulatory Risk, stated the reports raise “deeply troubling questions” about data use and public safety.
Simultaneously, French police and Europol raided X’s Paris headquarters Tuesday as part of a criminal investigation into child abuse material and sexual deepfakes. Authorities have summoned Musk for questioning following allegations that Grok produced thousands of harmful images. Malcolm warned that if standards are unmet, “we will take action to protect the public” from such significant potential harm.
