US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday threatening tariffs on countries that trade with Iran, citing national security concerns. The order allows for tariffs up to 25% on goods imported into the US from any nation that “directly or indirectly purchases, imports, or otherwise acquires any goods or services from Iran.” Trump emphasized his long-standing stance of “no nuclear weapons” for Iran.
The announcement coincides with US-Iran talks in Oman, involving high-level officials including Trump’s special envoy Jared Kushner and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Trump said the discussions were “very good” and warned of “steep consequences” if Iran refuses a deal. Meanwhile, Iran’s economy remains under pressure due to previous sanctions, while major trade partners like China, Iraq, and Turkey continue to purchase Iranian goods.
