Escalation: Israel strikes Iran — defying Trump’s own phone call to hold off

Israel has struck military targets across Iran — including near Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan — just hours after Trump personally urged Netanyahu to hold off on a retaliatory attack.

Trump said wait. Israel didn’t.

The Israel Defense Forces announced early Monday it had struck military targets in western and central Iran, according to CNN, just hours after President Trump personally called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging restraint. Trump had also told the Financial Times bluntly that Netanyahu “doesn’t call the shots” on any US-Iran deal.

Several loud explosions were reported in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan, per state-run Iranian outlets Mehr News and IRIB.

The strikes came after Iran launched ballistic missiles toward northern Israel. Tehran has since threatened to block the Bab al-Mandab maritime corridor if Israel escalates further — a move that would send shockwaves through global shipping.

Trump’s Iran negotiations just got a lot more complicated.
