BOOK: Bezos called WASH POST his worst investment and staff ‘terrible’…

A new book reveals Jeff Bezos told Donald Trump in late 2024 that the Washington Post was his worst investment, months before authorizing a massive newsroom downsizing.

Turns out Bezos wasn’t exactly a fan of his own newspaper. According to a new book by Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman, the Amazon founder told Trump over a December 2024 dinner that the Washington Post was his “worst investment,” griping that staff there “don’t listen,” New York Post reports.

Two months later, Bezos pushed the paper’s opinion pages toward “personal liberties and free markets,” sparking subscriber backlash. By February, he’d greenlit cuts to roughly a third of the workforce — axing photographers and the sports desk entirely. The book frames it as part of a broader tech-titan charm offensive toward Trump, who admitted he once “hated” Bezos over the Post’s coverage.
