Ex-Trump security adviser John Bolton admits mishandling classified documents, pleads guilty

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton has pleaded guilty to mishandling classified information, resolving all 18 counts in a federal indictment against him.

John Bolton is heading to sentencing. The 77-year-old former National Security Adviser entered a guilty plea in a Maryland federal court on Friday, admitting to retaining national defence information wrapping up a sweeping federal case that had hung over the veteran diplomat for months.

Prosecutors alleged Bolton unlawfully kept and shared over 1,000 pages of classified notes and diary entries tied to his government service, much of it linked to his memoir about the Trump administration.

Peoples Gazette reports that under a plea deal, Bolton now faces a possible prison term, a $2.25 million fine, community service, and the loss of his government pension. Sentencing is set for October.
