Chinese pastor Ezra Jin has been released from detention and reunited with his family in Los Angeles, following a direct appeal by US President Donald Trump to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
CHINESE PASTOR EZRA JIN FREED AFTER TRUMP INTERVENTION
Jin, founder of the underground Zion Church, had been detained since October alongside 17 other church members in one of China’s largest crackdowns on a single church in decades. He arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday.
According to Sky News, Trump raised Jin’s case with Xi during his state visit to Beijing in May, with Xi reportedly promising serious consideration. Jin’s daughter, Grace Jin Drexel, called the release a “miracle” and thanked supporters for their prayers.
Eight Zion Church members remain in detention, while nine others have been granted bail. China’s foreign ministry had not commented on the release at the time of reporting.
