McConnell Confirms Fall, Denies Stroke Or Heart Attack

Sen. Mitch McConnell addressed swirling questions about his health Sunday, confirming he was “briefly unconscious” after a fall and had been managing a mild case of pneumonia, CBS News reports.

The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican has been hospitalized since June 14, after emergency responders were called to his home for an unconscious person.

McConnell said doctors ruled out broken bones, a concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors or hemorrhages, but are still investigating the cause of the incident. He has since moved from hospital care to a rehabilitation center to continue regaining strength.

While not cleared to return to the Senate floor, McConnell said he remains in contact with staff and colleagues, reaffirming his commitment to finish his term before retiring in January.
