Ukraine Sinks Russian Ship Near Putin-linked Estate
Ukraine says one of its domestically developed Sargan-3000 naval drones has sunk a Russian patrol ship docked in the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik, close to a luxury estate long alleged to be connected to President Vladimir Putin.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the vessel, identified as the Emerald and operated by Russia’s FSB security service, was struck while moored, with Ukrainian officials reporting fatalities and injuries among the crew.
Ukraine released satellite imagery it said showed the ship split in half after the attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the operation as a strategic success carried out far from the front lines, underscoring Kyiv’s growing use of sea drones to challenge Russian naval power in the Black Seal.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the targeted location lies near a lavish palace that late opposition leader Alexei Navalny alleged was built for Putin, a claim the Kremlin has consistently denied. Russia had not publicly responded to requests for comment on the reported strike.
