BURNHAM: Labour’s New Leader, UK’s Next PM
Veteran UK politician Andy Burnham has been confirmed as the new leader of the ruling Labour Party, setting him up to become Britain’s next prime minister. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood announced the result at a special party conference, declaring Burnham the “duly elected leader” after no rival candidate qualified for nomination, Vanguard reports.
Burnham, dubbed the “King of the North” for his tenure as Greater Manchester mayor, returned to parliament last month via a by-election win. He is expected to formally replace Starmer at 10 Downing Street on Monday.
