The FBI has arrested Khalid Ahmed Satary, accused of orchestrating a $547 million Medicare fraud scheme, nearly three years after he fled the U.S.
FBI CAPTURES FUGITIVE IN $547M MEDICARE FRAUD CASE
Satary, who was indicted in 2019, was captured overseas with support from U.S. and international law enforcement partners after he allegedly violated the conditions of his pretrial release back in 2022.
According to New York Post, prosecutors accused him of leading a conspiracy that fraudulently billed Medicare for medically unnecessary genetic tests between 2016 and 2019, carried out through deceptive marketing tactics, illegal kickbacks and bribes that specifically targeted elderly patients across the country.
The FBI confirmed Satary has now been returned to the United States, where he is set to make an initial court appearance before a judge. His capture marks the third arrest stemming from the bureau’s “Most Wanted Fraudsters” initiative within just five weeks, officials noted.
