Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faced bipartisan pressure Tuesday to justify a $67 billion emergency funding request tied to the escalating war with Iran.
HEGSETH GRILLED OVER $67 BILLION IRAN WAR FUNDING REQUEST
The Washington Post reports Hegseth testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, revealing the conflict has cost roughly $37.5 billion so far.
He warned training could be curtailed without more funds and defended the request as necessary to replenish weapons stocks, though he declined to say if more money would be sought for damaged Middle East bases.
Lawmakers also pressed the administration on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Caine acknowledged air power has limits, as officials confirmed continued U.S. strikes and fresh Iranian attacks.
