Critics accused Trump of bragging about troop deaths. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gavin Newsom, Chuck Schumer and Senator Chris Van Hollen all condemned the remarks, the outlet reported. Trump further stoked outrage Wednesday by calling the conflict a “skirmish” while suggesting Iran was nearing a deal.
Allies pushed back on the criticism. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller defended the administration’s approach, telling Fox News that Iran is “learning a clear lesson,” per Newsweek.
The comments came as Trump attended a dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base for four recently killed service members, part of a toll that has now reached 18 confirmed deaths since the conflict began, Newsweek reported.
