Mitch McConnell’s spokesperson, Robert Steurer, twice stonewalled independent journalist Nicholas Ballasy this week when asked whether the senator would release a video statement, walking away from the camera both times, The Daily Beast reports. Press secretary Stephanie Penn similarly dodged Ballasy earlier this month.
McConnell, 84, hasn’t been seen publicly since June 14, when he suffered a cardiac arrest at home. His office stayed silent for nearly a month before releasing a photo showing him in bed beside wife Elaine Chao, which social media users dismissed as an AI fake. Doctors say he remains “not yet medically cleared” to leave rehab.
