Not transferable: Nobel committee blocks Machado from giving peace prize to Trump

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has issued a definitive statement clarifying that a Nobel Prize cannot be transferred, shared, or revoked, directly responding to remarks by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado who suggested she might give her 2025 Peace Prize to U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement on Friday, the institute cited the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, stating: “Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time.”

Machado had told Fox News that presenting the prize to Trump would be an act of gratitude for the U.S. role in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, saying of the offer, “Well, it hasn’t happened yet.” President Trump, who has long expressed interest in winning the prize, said he would be honored to accept it if offered during a planned meeting with Machado next week. The Nobel Institute added that committees do not comment on laureates’ subsequent actions.
