Iconic fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died at the age of 93, his foundation announced Monday. Valentino “passed away peacefully in his Roman residence, surrounded by the love of his loved ones,” the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation said in a statement. The designer’s death follows that of fellow Italian fashion giant Giorgio Armani four months ago. Valentino, known for his signature red gowns and glamorous clientele, founded his fashion house in 1959 and became a global symbol of Italian elegance. A lying-in-state will be held in Rome on Wednesday and Thursday, with a funeral scheduled for Friday in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.
