Trump delivers longest State of the Union speech on record

President Donald Trump set a new record for the longest State of the Union address, delivering a 1 hour and 47 minute speech to Congress.

President Donald Trump delivered the longest State of the Union address on record Tuesday, speaking for 1 hour and 47 minutes before the 119th Congress. The 2026 speech surpassed his previous record set last year and eclipsed former President Bill Clinton’s nearly 90-minute address in 2000, according to The American Presidency Project.

Clinton’s 2000 speech had held the modern record since at least 1964. In contrast, former President Richard Nixon retains the shortest address on record, having spoken for less than 30 minutes during his 1972 State of the Union.
