As multiple nations evacuate their citizens from Iran amid reports of potential US military action for regime change, Iranian officials have dismissed the threats as psychological warfare while vowing a “decisive response” to any aggression.
Amid stalling nuclear negotiations in Geneva, the United Kingdom and several other nations have begun withdrawing staff and citizens from Iran as reports surface that US President Donald Trump may consider a larger military attack aimed at forcing a regime change if diplomacy fails. While the BBC reported that Trump told advisers he might seek to force Iranian leaders from power should targeted strikes fail to compel the abandonment of their nuclear program, Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria Mahdavi Raja dismissed the threats as a “psychological and media campaign aimed at portraying the situation as unstable.”
Despite the exodus of foreign nationals, Raja insisted that “life in Iran is continuing as normal” and emphasized that while Tehran remains committed to peaceful solutions, any military aggression “would be met with a firm and decisive response in defence of Iran’s sovereignty.” This defiance comes even as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed “good progress” was achieved during the third round of indirect talks, with technical reviews scheduled to begin in Vienna next Monday.
