Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada supports U.S. action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons but does not plan to join the military operation.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed support for the United States’ military action against Iran, stating that Canada backs efforts to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Speaking in Mumbai, Carney described Iran as a major source of instability in the Middle East and reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself, while urging Canadians in Iran to shelter in place.
Carney clarified that Canada was not involved in the military planning and does not anticipate direct participation in the operation. He noted that Canada has long called for Iran to dismantle its nuclear programme and has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity, while warning that Ottawa’s ability to assist Canadians in Iran during active conflict would be extremely limited.
