Meta acquires Moltbook, social network built for AI bots

Meta has acquired Moltbook, a rapidly growing AI-agent social network, as part of its broader push to compete with leading tech firms in the race to develop advanced artificial intelligence systems.

Meta Platforms has acquired Moltbook, a social networking platform where AI agents interact autonomously, the company confirmed Tuesday. The platform gained rapid attention in Silicon Valley after attracting millions of registered bots within days of launch, highlighting growing interest in systems where artificial intelligence agents communicate and collaborate like humans.

The acquisition underscores Meta’s intensifying competition with rivals such as OpenAI and Google in the AI race. Moltbook’s team will join Meta’s superintelligence labs, and a spokesperson said its approach “opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.” However, critics warn the platform may contain fake agents, AI-generated spam, and security risks.
