EU tells Trump Iran conflict ‘not Europe’s war’

European Union leaders have rejected U.S. calls to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, insisting the Iran conflict is not Europe’s war.

European Union foreign ministers have rejected calls from United States President Donald Trump to help secure the Strait of Hormuz following escalating tensions with Iran.

Meeting in Brussels, the ministers discussed Washington’s request to expand the EU naval mission in the region but declined to deploy warships to the strategic waterway.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Europe would avoid being drawn into the conflict, stressing, “Europe has no interest in an open-ended war,” and adding, “This is not Europe’s war.”

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius also stated, “The Americans chose this path, together with the Israelis… We did not start this war.”
