Trump administration reviews possible ground troop deployment to Iran

The Trump administration is preparing military options, including potential deployment of U.S. ground troops to Iran, though officials say no final decision has been made.

Donald Trump’s administration has made extensive preparations for the potential deployment of U.S. ground forces to Iran, according to sources familiar with Pentagon discussions.

Senior military commanders have submitted requests aimed at preparing the option as the president considers possible actions in the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.

Trump, however, publicly downplayed the possibility when speaking to reporters in the Oval Office. “No, I’m not putting troops anywhere,” he said, adding, “If I were, I certainly wouldn’t tell you.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the preparations were routine military planning and did not indicate a final decision.

Officials said planning also includes how to handle the potential detention of Iranian soldiers if U.S. forces are deployed.

The U.S. military is preparing elements of the 82nd Airborne Division for possible deployment, while thousands of Marines and naval assets are already moving toward the Middle East to expand options available to the president.
