Brazilian mom acquitted after killing boyfriend who raped her daughter

A Brazilian jury acquitted Erica Pereira da Silveira Vicente of murdering her boyfriend after she caught him sexually assaulting her 11-year-old daughter, accepting her self-defense claim despite prosecutors arguing the killing showed “cold premeditation.”

A Brazilian mother has been cleared of murder after killing her boyfriend when she caught him attempting to rape her young daughter. Erica Pereira da Silveira Vicente, 43, confessed to killing partner Everton Amaro de Silva in Minas Gerais, saying she acted to protect her 11-year-old. She was alerted by disturbing texts de Silva sent the child before finding him on top of her screaming daughter.

Prosecutors argued the killing was carried out “not in blind rage but with cold premeditation,” citing evidence she drugged, stabbed, and clubbed de Silva before mutilating and burning his body.

However, after one day of testimony, the jury acquitted Vicente of aggravated homicide and destruction of a corpse. Having already served a year in pretrial detention, she was fully cleared by the judge of any wrongdoing on Tuesday.
