VIA PEOPLES GAZETTE:
The Vice President of the United States JD Vance has claimed Somali-American lawmaker Ilhan Omar, who is a Democrat representing Minnesota in the U.S. Congress, committed immigration fraud.
Mr Vance made the accusation in an interview posted on social media by The Benny Show on Friday.
He stated the Trump administration believes the congresswoman committed, noting he has spoken to White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller to seek legal solutions to the issue.
“We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America. I talked to Stephen Miller about this recently. We are trying to look at what the remedies are. That’s the thing we are trying to figure out,” Mr Vance said.
“What are the legal remedies now that we know that she committed immigration fraud? How do you go after her, investigate her. How do you build a case to get some justice for the American people?.”
Ms Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 before moving to the United States in 1995 alongside her family after they secured asylum.
She became a U.S. citizen in 2000, which has become a point of contention for President Donald Trump and his followers, alleging fraud in her naturalisation process.
Speaking further, Mr Vance said that Ms Omar is surrounded by Somali fraudsters, while raising questions whether she knew about alleged fraudulent activities that the Trump administration claimed were ‘massive’ within the Somali community.
“There is a related issue being she has been at the centre of some of the worst fraudsters in the Somalia community. Do I know if Ilhan Omar was aware some were defrauding the American people?
“I’m not certain of it but we at least need to investigate it because if people can commit wrongdoing without even the fear that they are going to be found out — that’s a fundamental problem,” the vice president stated.
He added, “I’m worried about the immigration fraud and also worried about what Ilhan Omar knows about what was happening in the Somalia community and why nobody was looking into it until frankly Donald Trump.”
