Donald Trump mocked Emmanuel Macron over a viral incident involving his wife while criticising European allies for failing to support U.S. military efforts in the Middle East.
U.S. President Donald Trump mocked French President Emmanuel Macron during a White House Easter lunch, referencing a viral video involving Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. Trump joked that Macron was “still recovering from the right to the jaw,” adding that Macron’s “wife treats him extremely badly,” drawing laughter from the audience.
The remarks came as Trump criticised European allies for failing to support U.S. operations in the Middle East. Recounting a phone call, he said: “Then I call up France, Macron – whose wife treats him extremely badly – he’s still recovering from the right to the jaw.”
Trump also mocked Macron’s response while urging France to send naval support, saying in a mock accent: “No, no, no, I cannot do that Donald, we can do that after the war is won.” The comments added to growing tensions between Washington and European allies over their reluctance to deploy forces to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
