Senator Chris Van Hollen stated that FBI Director Kash Patel must be removed due to incapacitating drinking allegations and the retaliatory firing of federal agents.
Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) stated Sunday that FBI Director Kash Patel must be removed “for a whole host of reasons,” according to HuffPost.
Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Van Hollen argued the FBI cannot “function effectively” under Patel, citing reports of excessive drinking and the weaponization of the agency against agents who investigated January 6 and Donald Trump’s classified documents.
The remarks follow a tense Senate hearing regarding an Atlantic report alleging Patel was frequently incapacitated. Patel, who has filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the publication, previously agreed to take an alcohol screening test.
However, Van Hollen expressed skepticism about the potential results. “My sense from Patel’s conduct overall is he may or may not do it, but I unfortunately won’t be able to believe the results. Because in that hearing, he did lie several times.”
