Democrat lawmaker calls on DNC Chair Martin to resign

A Democratic congressman has become the first House Democrat to publicly call for Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin to step down following the botched release of a flawed autopsy report on the party’s 2024 election losses.

Representative Marc Veasey (D-Texas) on Thursday called on Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin to resign, saying the party lacked a clear plan to recover ahead of the midterm elections.

“There doesn’t seem to be a plan to turn things around and the clock is ticking. November is literally around the corner… I believe it’s time for him to move on,” Veasey told Semafor.

Martin had released a 192-page postmortem on Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential defeat after months of internal party pressure, acknowledging its shortcomings upon release.

“I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards. I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it. I could not in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it. But transparency is paramount,” Martin said.

The report, riddled with factual errors and omissions, made no mention of former President Biden’s age, Tim Walz’s selection as running mate, or intraparty divisions over Gaza. Former DNC Vice Chair David Hogg also called for Martin’s resignation.
