The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has released footage showing deputies intentionally running over an armed suspect with a Bearcat vehicle after he fatally shot Detective Randy Hoppert.
Authorities have released footage showing deputies fatally running over David Morales, 59, with an armored Bearcat vehicle after he killed Tulare County Detective Randy Hoppert during an eviction shootout.
According to Daily Mail, Morales fired from thick brush in camouflage before being rammed. Bullets from his unregistered rifle penetrated the vehicle’s ballistic glass.
Sheriff Mike Boudreaux defended the tactical decision to use the armored vehicle against the barricaded gunman.
“We intentionally ran him over,” Boudreaux declared. “Don’t shoot at cops. You shoot at cops, we’re going to run you over. He got run over; he got what he deserved.”
“This is senseless,” the sheriff continued, adding that Morales “created this.” Governor Gavin Newsom ordered state flags to fly at half-staff to honor Detective Hoppert’s sacrifice.
